Production
In this film initially titled as Sambhavam and later changed as Pagal Kollai and finally revealed by the team and changed as Thagararu. Arulnithi initially work as a hero role in the film. Heroine role preferred pooja but she was busy with other commitments and poorna recommended for the role.
The first day opening shoot taken from previous film mankatha opening scene location shot, since the producer considered it as "sentimental". The shoot entirely shot at madurai. 3 June 2013 last schedule was commenced in Red Hills, chennai.

Initially music director and composer for the film is Raghunanthan but for unknown reasons he was dropped from the film. Later replaced Dharan appointed for a music director for the film, while he is doing composing job very well for the film. November 18 2013 the audio album was launched at an FM station through Sony Music.
