Earlier Irrfan khan was revealed to be a part of the film but he have other movie projects so he dropped from the project. Later Vidyut Jamwal replace for irrfan khan. Jamwal decided to stunts himself and without any body double. Gulshan Grover was hired to play a negative role in this film and he is a powerful industrialist in the film.

Filming

The film began on 6 November 2012 in lucknow, while the first shoot ends in lucknow on 10 december and then next shoot began on kolkata at around last week of february 2013, mean while real and duplicate guns are used in the shooting saif used original gun because for realistic look. The actors shot in the Dalhousie area of central kolkata and other locations are Princep ghat, Kumartuli, Flower market and Laha Bari. Completed shooting in kolkata the crew came back in lucknow to resume and then to Nashik for the final shoot.

Development

The film was reported to plan with Karthi on october 2006, whose first film was yet to release at the time, and Sandhya being signed for the film. While the film titled as Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam, the film shoot began on november 2006 and was produced by R Ravindran. Selvaraghavan collaboration with cinematographer Arvind Krishna and music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja. After a brief schedule film was failed to progress.

Casting

In september 2011, selvaraghavan has planned to dubbed the movie in telugu. While, Arya and Anushka roped to play the lead roles in the movie. Meanwhile, Harris Jayaraj was confirmed to be a part of the project.

Filming

24th December 2011, the film shooting took off in Ramoji film city, Hyderabad. The next scenes were shots in Goa, inside the BITS-Pilani, Goa Campus, following which the team shot few scenes in Rio de Janeiro and the forests of Brazil. Arya and Anushka will play double roles. Selvaraghavan reported that the film will have CGI scenes. Some portions are shotted in Hyderabad. Arya worked out in gym and six pack abs to fit the muscular lead role. Chinmayi given a voice in tamil for anushka.

Budget

The overall budget for the movie is 50 crore and it converts to U S dollar 7.7 Million. 

Music

The music director for the movie is Harris Jayaraj, Harris Jayaraj first collaboration with selvaraghavan. Vairamuthu written the lyrics for seven songs in tamil and in telugu Chandrabose written the lyrics. The songs feature breezy romantic and situation based tracks as per the film's central theme. The background score was composed by Anirudh Ravichandar.

En Kaadhal Thee sung by S P Balasubramaniam was recorded in late october 2012 and then the single track song "Pazhangkalla" sung by dhanush and the song was released at Suryan F M on 2nd August. And the overall music album was released on 4th August 2013.
